AYURVEDIC VIEW OF PYORRHEAIn Ayurvedic name for Pyorrhea is 'Putidanta or Dantaveshta'. From Ayurvedic perspectives, pyorrhea reflects vitiation of rasa and rakta dhatus.CAUSES FOR PYORRHEAPrimary cause for pyorrhea is usually a result of increased accumulation of bacteria leading to dental plaque formation causing gingivitis, a periodontal disease that infects the gum through plaque, causing pocket formation between the teeth that trap plaque and food particles accumulated, bacteria in plaque produce many toxins, which irritate the gums, causing them to become inflamed, tender and prone to bleeding easily. Bacterial activity is however, facilitated by the lowered vitality of the system.FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF PYORRHEAPoor oral hygiene. Allergies Emotional Stress and excessive tension. Pregnancy Wrong eating habits like the frequent intake of white sugar and bread Wrong technique of brushing. AYURVEDIC CAUSE FOR PYORRHEAIn context of Ayurveda, pyorrhea results due to vitiation of rasa and rakta dhatus, caused by improper digestion. The toxins produced due to improper digestion get mixed up with these two dhatus and then get accumulated in gums and oral cavity. These come out during actions like brushing teeth. So pyorrhea in Ayurvedic terms is caused by poor digestion.SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF PYORRHEASwollen, tender or red gums. Pus discharge may be there. Mouth ulcer formation may occur. Bone erosion occur.
